Hello people,
I wanted to clean up my favorites, bookmarks in Internet Explorer 6.x. I
does not allow me to select multiple files to delete them and it would take
too much time to do it a single bookmark at time. Where does IE store
bookmarks do I can edit it by hand and delete all the garbage at once? I
could export everything and edit that by hand but when I import them back in
they will just get appended! If it is not possible to edit bookmarks by hand
is there a utility that allows me to select more than one bookmark at a time
and delete them?

Thanks,
Erica

Hold down shift and click on organize favorites in I.E. It will bring
the favorites up in explorer. You can do what you want with it at that
point.

Yep, I was just going to say if you go to your C:\Documents and
Settings\<user>\ folder and set Explorer to "Show hidden files and
folders" in folder options, you'll see a Favorites folder with a star
icon. If you click into that, every one of your favorites will show up
as a seperate file, and you can use shift, control or "lassoing" with
the mouse to do whatever you want.

This little folder is also very useful when you need to backup/restore
IE bookmarks, but you didn't get the chance to export them to an HTML
file (like when Windows goes down for the count, and all you've got is
a hard drive full of data that won't boot). I've found that I can copy
the entire contents of the folder, zip them or whatever, move them to
another computer, and paste every file straight into the hidden
"Favorites" folder, and voila-all favorites are intact.

(I think if you DO get to export them that the HTML file is smaller
than the Favorites folder, though, so it's the preferred method if you
can. Also, the only version I've tested this with is IE 7, not sure at
all if/how it works with older versions.)

Then I'll answer your 'bookmarks' question.
